The 9th Rivers Awards Composition Competition has attracted extensive attention from Chinese and international composers since the announcement of the competition rules in January 2020. Through careful review of the 93 entries from 13 countries and regions across the globe, the Jury of nine members has shortlisted the following 11 entries for the final round:

2. Chushangu II – For Pipa, Piano and String Quartet (China)
3. Fierce Wind – For Flute & Xiao, Pipa, Erhu, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Double Bass (China)
4. Floating shadows – For Bamboo Flute, Erhu, Violin, Cello and Piano (China)
5. Falling Jade – For Flute, Erhu, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Double Bass (China)
6. Sparse Shadows Lingering in the Winter – For Xiao (or Flute), Erhu, Pipa, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Double Bass (China)
7. Sound from Time Immemorial – For Erhu, Violin, Cello, Pipa and Piano (China)
8. Tessuto2 – For Erhu, Violin, Viola, Cello and Piano (Poland)
9. Yinian – For Flute (or Xiao), Pipa, Erhu, Piano and String Quartet (China)
10. A dream of the river – For Bamboo Flute, Erhu, Pipa, String quintet and Piano (China)
11. Bamboo forest and irrigated land – For Flute, Pipa, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Piano (China)
Note: Since two entries got the same score in the preliminary review, the Jury, after deliberation, finally decided to increase the quota of finalist from 10 to 11 to include an extra entry.
The final concert and awards ceremony of the 9th Rivers Awards Composition Competition will be held at 19: 15 on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the He Luting Concert Hall of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
